Charlie Atwill is a Certified Financial Planner ™ with over 20 years of investment and planning experience working with individuals, families, retirees, business owners, qualified retirement plans, and trusts.


In 2005, he formed AFCG to provide fee-only investment management and financial planning services. Prior to starting AFCG, he practiced as a financial advisor with Advest, Inc., a regional investment firm that was acquired by Merrill Lynch.


Charlie is a member of The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), the country's leading professional association of Fee-Only financial advisors. As a NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisor, he is broadly trained to bring together and apply the separate disciplines comprising personal finance--income tax, financial position and cash flow, retirement preparation, estate planning, investments, and risk management.     


Charlie has been featured in the Financial Adviser blog of The Wall Street Journal discussing the topic of Austrian School economics and investing. A link to the article is available here.


He is active in the community providing pro bono financial planning services to cancer patients and their families through the CancerLinc. Charlie is also a member and past-president of the Financial Planning Association of Central Virginia.   


Charlie received his B.A. from Hampden-Sydney College in 1992.


He and his family live in Richmond.
